Poland takes the helm of the EU Council Presidency

As of 1 January 2025, and taking over from Hungary, Poland has assumed the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, setting the agenda for Member States over the next six months.

Regarding cultural affairs, Poland aims to prioritise the support of emerging young creators, with Council conclusions on this topic anticipated. A dedicated conference in Warsaw is scheduled for 9–10 April, alongside plans to revisit conclusions from the French Presidency regarding artist mobility and multilingualism. Key cultural meetings include the Culture Council on 13 May 2025 and an informal gathering of Culture Ministers in Warsaw on 7–8 April.

A significant priority during Poland’s term will be shaping the future of the Creative Europe programme beyond 2027, as part of discussions on the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework. This timing aligns perfectly with Poland’s role in budget planning, as EU Budget Commissioner Piotr Serafin takes a key position in these deliberations.

Poland will also focus on revising the Audiovisual Media Services Directive in 2026, with Council conclusions expected. Additionally, an AI and media-themed conference addressing copyright and media literacy will be held on 24–25 May in Łódź.
