Caring together for resilient museums

Our main conference venue FÆNGSLET, a former prison thoughtfully turned into a museum and cultural venue, creates an evocative backdrop as we come together to explore the transformative role of museums in supporting mental health, wellbeing, and community resilience.

This year’s programme highlights the growing role of museums as spaces for healing, connection, and social impact. Featuring case studies, panels, and hands-on workshops, key themes include:

  • Cross-sector collaboration between culture and healthcare.
  • Building organisational resilience and staff wellbeing.
  • Youth mental health and engagement.
  • Trauma-informed and care-centred museum practices.
  • Hands-on learning in several workshops, which you already can book in the registration.

Get the most from Horsens

Before or after the NEMO European Museum Conference we highly recommend exploring Horsens and its surroundings. The area offers a unique mix of art, culture, nature—and one of Denmark's beautiful fjords!

Horsens combines the energy of a big city with the charm of a small town. It’s free from congestion and stress, yet full of art, food, nature, and cultural life. Discover award-winning museums, green spaces, and street art, or enjoy the newly refurbished city centre. The city’s past as a prison and industrial hub is still visible, adding depth to its modern appeal. Learn more on our Practical information page.

Don't miss out on the possibility to join a post conference tour on 29 October to Aarhus for visits to Museum OvartaciAROS, Den Gamle By (Old Town), and KØN – Gender Museum Denmark.

The conference is co-organised by NEMO – the Network of European Museum Organisations, Museum Horsens, and the Danish Museums Association, with support by Central Denmark Region and European Region of Culture, and thanks to co-funding by the European Union.
