In a document listing the priorities of the Presidency, Spain highlights to the topic of working conditions in the cultural and creative sectors through a policy debate among Culture Ministers of the 27 Member States, scheduled on 23-24 November. The debate will cover the need to improve the working, social security and tax conditions of artists through the promotion of the proposed European Status of the Artist and of cultural workers. The proposal would establish a common framework and enable cross-border mobility.
The Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union will commit to strengthen “the cultural dimension as a fundamental pillar in the consolidation of a spirit of European citizenship, leading a strategy to support the recognition of culture as an essential public good”, in line with the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development MONDIACULT Final Declaration.
Additionally, from 25-26 September 2023 in Cáceres, the Informal Ministerial Meeting on Culture will discuss ways to foster good practices in sustainable heritage management.
