The tool features a series of staircase models that outline developmental steps across eight key areas essential for museums striving for sustainability. By using this tool, museums can create a clear overview of their current sustainability practices, identify areas for improvement, and prioritise actions that have the most significant impact.
Access the staircase models (in Danish) for the eight key areas:
The staircase model is rooted in the principles of balancing economic, social, environmental, and climate considerations. It draws on four fundamental principles for achieving a sustainable society: minimising resource extraction, avoiding the accumulation of synthetic substances in nature, ensuring the regenerative use of natural resources, and promoting global fairness in the distribution of goods.
The staircase tool, developed by the consulting company In Futurum, is designed to help museums not only reduce their negative environmental impact but also contribute positively to the restoration of natural ecosystems and societal balance. It provides practical "rules of thumb" for decision-making in everyday operations, particularly when detailed research or specific information is not readily available.
The Green Academy hopes that this tool will empower museums to take meaningful steps towards sustainability, fostering development and innovation across the sector.
