A new handbook outlines how Glasgow Women’s Library plans to make its building net-zero in operation within the decade.

Glasgow Women’s Library (GWL) has published the practical plan Net-Zero Handbook, which details the steps GWL will take to make its building ‘operational net zero’ by 2030. The handbook reflects the library’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Recognising the urgency of the climate crisis, GWL believes cultural institutions must take an active role in addressing environmental impact. The library has integrated green practices across its organisation, from minimising waste and improving energy efficiency to promoting cycling, using Fair Trade and eco-friendly supplies, and engaging in sector-wide initiatives like the Green Arts Initiative.

The Net-Zero Handbook represents the next step in this journey, providing a clear, actionable framework for how GWL will reduce emissions, enhance energy performance, and contribute to a more sustainable cultural sector.
