NEMO was represented by Paulina Florjanowicz, Director of the National Institute for Museums (NIM) in Poland and Member of the NEMO Executive Board. Florjanowicz opened the second day of the forum together with Vasyl Pasternak, Member of the Board of the OBMIN Foundation. She also contributed to the panel discussion “Safeguarding Heritage: Technical Standards, Storage Logistics and Emergency Response”, alongside experts from Poland, Ukraine and Estonia, and delivered a presentation on PANOPTIKUM, a new museum competence centre developed by NIM.
Discussions at the forum focused on museums as “guardians of identity” and on counteracting the instrumentalisation of culture as a tool of aggression and disinformation. During the second day, hosted at PANOPTIKUM in Lesznowola, participants took part in guided tours of the facility and explored the latest technologies for secure collection storage, logistics and risk preparedness.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, NIM has significantly expanded its mission to include humanitarian aid, specialised training and international knowledge exchange on crisis preparedness. This work has resulted in comprehensive security guidelines for museums operating under conditions of conflict, now available in English and actively promoted by international organisations, including NEMO and ICOM Security.
NEMO’s participation in the forum through board member Paulina Florjanowicz reflected the network’s ongoing engagement in supporting Ukrainian museums, fostering institutional resilience, and promoting museum independence in challenging contexts.
