As part of an ongoing strategic partnership, NEMO supported and contributed to the ‘Meet, See, Do’ conference, organised by the Balkan Museum Network in Zagreb, Croatia. On 28 May, NEMO delivered the keynote ‘Museum Is a Verb!’, encouraging continuous upskilling to help museum professionals embrace and shape change.

From 28-29 May 2025, the Meet, See, Do 2025 welcomed more than 90 participants from 10+ countries at the Zagreb City Museum for an inspiring programme of 2 keynotes, 3 panel discussions, 2 partner presentations, and 12 workshops.

The two keynote sessions explored how museums can respond to rapid societal, technological, and political change. In her keynote, NEMO’s Project Officer Margherita Sani focused on the ongoing process of upskilling and reskilling that’s necessary for museum professionals to be able to integrate diverse perspectives and approaches, and embrace and shape change.

The conference featured three insightful panel discussions, Main Issues of Exhibition Design, Emotional Museum: Curating with Care, and Digital Storytelling in Museums, each tackling key challenges and innovations shaping the museum field today.

From rethinking design approaches and addressing emotional narratives to integrating emerging digital technologies, the conversations highlighted a shared imperative: museums must continue to evolve while remaining deeply responsive to their audiences and core missions.

Conference attendees also had the opportunity to explore the Zagreb City Museum’s collection, visit exhibition stalls hosted by conference sponsors, and gain fresh insights through partner presentations on value-based heritage interpretation and innovative technologies for museums.

The event concluded with the Peace Broker Prize award ceremony, honouring Dr Irena Ruzhin (Bitola Museum) and her outstanding contributions to fostering dialogue and social cohesion in the Western Balkan region. Ruzhin is helping to shift how cultural institutions in the Western Balkans engage with disability, ensuring true participation. From co-creating exhibitions with disabled people to reimagining programs that center their voices and lived experiences, Ruzhin exemplifies how museums can become places of belonging, dignity, and dialogue.

The ‘Meet, See, Do’ conference was organised by the Balkan Museum Network, in collaboration with the Zagreb City Museum, and proudly supported by the Network of European Museum through a strategic partnership. We look forward to the next edition!
