By participating in the SHIFT Eco-Guidelines for Networks programme, NEMO deepens its unwavering commitment to sustainability and climate action. As a network we want to inspire and contribute to positive change for the climate, people, and planet.
The SHIFT programme is developed specifically for cultural network-organisations to help them improve, measure, monitor and evaluate efforts towards sustainabilityThese guidelines recognise the unique nature of such organisations and address key areas of environmental impact - including operations, governance, policies, travel, and events, which are often the largest sources of emissions.
During the first year of implementation, participating networks, including NEMO, will put mandatory measures into practice. These efforts will not only be monitored and evaluated, but also shared with the networks’ wider membership, aiming to inspire long-term change across the museum and cultural sector. Continuous exchange and dialogue will also take place between NEMO and the other networks embarking on the SHIFT journey as well as the network of 16 organisations who already have completed the programme.
Established by Culture for Climate Scotland and the Green Leisure Group, the guidelines mark an important step towards filling a gap in the environmental certification landscape. While already structured as ecolabel guidelines, they also lay the groundwork for a future certification scheme tailored to cultural networks.
The SHIFT Eco-Guidelines are part of the environmental sustainability strand of the Horizon Europe funded SHIFT project, led by ELIA, a global network for higher arts education and one of nine SHIFT partners.
